Conditions: You are a unit leader responsible for the leadership and supervision of personnel. Personnel includes both male and female, officer and enlisted, and represent single and married individuals. Military families include single individuals, married service couples, sole-parent, and DA civilian. As a unit leader, regardless of location, environment, time of day, you are responsible for ensuring you and your subordinates are prepared for separation/deployment. Separation/deployment can take place with little or no notice, and for designated or unspecified periods of time. This requires you, your subordinates, and their family members to understand and implement the Army Family Team Building (AFTB) Program. Included is the program’s purpose, goals, provisions for family preparedness, resources available, challenges families face during separation or deployment, family support groups, predeployment briefings and the responsibility for ensuring their family members are capable of functioning and managing their affairs during the separation or deployment. This task should not be trained in MOPP 4.
Standards: Implement the Army Family Team Building (AFTB) Program at company level. Comply with and emphasize the need for families to be capable of functioning in the absence of the Soldier or DA civilian. This includes conducting training on personal readiness, provisions for family preparedness, resources available, challenges families face during separation/deployment, family support groups, Soldier’s/DA civilian’s responsibility, and the conduct of pre-deployment briefings. Unit leaders must be capable of identifying any problems and take appropriate and expedient action to assist in correcting the problem or situation.
